BidWatch OS is a public paid ranking laid out as a desktop operating system. Anyone can pay to place a product, website or profile on it, from $5. The amount decides the position: the highest bids fill the 30 places in the dock, everything else sits in a category folder. Every placement is shown next to the amount that bought it, so a position is always visible as paid advertising rather than as an editorial pick.
Bids accumulate rather than competing with themselves — paying again for the same link raises the existing placement. Equal bids are separated by whoever arrived first. Beyond the ranking, the open space on the desktop is rented by the minute: windows, desktop icons, menu-bar slots, notifications and the screensaver, each clearing itself in public when its time runs out.
